Composers' organizations have requested information about composers and songwriters in streaming services. From this week, extended song information is available in all of WiMP's various clients.

WiMP users can now click on a small "i" on the track they are listening to and get information about who wrote, played on and produced the work. This is information that many have missed. Pål Bråtelund at WiMP, who initiated and has led the work, does not know if WiMP is the first among streaming services with such information, but emphasizes that they are early adopters.

– I am an author myself and a TONO member, and perhaps that is why I think this is extra important information. The physical formats are disappearing, but many people miss information about the music they listen to in digital services, says Bråtelund.

To be further developed
The information comes from the aggregators and record labels.

– We are somewhat in the hands of those who have given us the work. But we want expanded song information on all 25 million tracks in WiMP, says Bråtelund. He encourages artists and producers to be careful with the correct information when releasing their music through, for example, Phonofile. WiMP will in the future work to see if information from other sources can also be used to increase the quality of the data, and mentions TONO, Gramo and the National Library.

– an obvious way to navigate the music
The next step for WiMP will be to index information and link it to other related works. This will allow you to click on, for example, Thom Hell and access other releases he has contributed to. Bråtelund claims that it is not just to compete in a tough market that WiMP is launching extended song information:

– It's an obvious way to navigate music. But we've also been encouraged to include extended song info by composer associations, and we're therefore also happy to be able to launch this as a response to that, says Bråtelund.
