It is not easy to make a living as a composer, songwriter, lyricist, music publisher in Norway. In the third world it is perhaps even more difficult. However, in many third world countries, authors have begun to organize themselves to defend their rights as creators of music, and to be rightfully paid for the use of it.
Many of these have received assistance from TONO and Norcode – “The Norwegian Copyright Development Association”. The latter was established in 2007 with TONO as one of the initiators. One of the projects is particularly relevant this week. TONO is receiving visits from the organizations we support in Nigeria, Tanzania, Botswana, Kenya, Barbados and Vietnam. TONO is responsible for the content of the workshop, while Norcode is responsible for the practical aspects. The theme is music in the digital sphere.
