The final of Melodi Grand Prix 2024 will be held on Saturday. Among nine entries, one song will be voted on to represent Norway in the world's biggest music show - Eurovision.
Although it is easy to be dazzled by spectacular stage shows, pyrotechnics and lightning-fast costume changes, MGP and Eurovision are first and foremost a singing competition where songwriters compete.
A total of 18 songs have participated in the three semi-finals of 2024. These songs were written by a total of 60 people, 51 of whom are TONO members.
The nine final entries that will be performed to a packed Trondheim Spektrum on Saturday have been composed and written by 34 music creators. Among them are 31 TONO members.
Stig Karlsen, music director for Melodi Grand Prix, is a guest in this episode. He explains how he and the editorial team choose the songs that will be submitted to MGP, and how you can be one of them.
We also ask how other countries choose their entries, what the future of the competition looks like, and what about when MGP becomes politicized?
You can hear the music creators everywhere you listen to podcasts.
