– Without music, we might as well close the shop

“Not having music is a disaster. We might as well close the store,” says Talia Sofie Gran at Lille Vinkel Sko. All over the country, businesses are using music to create good customer experiences.

TONO has met five companies with a passionate relationship with their background music. MPH|Milesperhour, Espresso House, Høyer Woman, Lille Vinkel Sko and Doda dance shop at Byporten Shopping in Oslo believe background music is important for their businesses.

According to a 2017 survey conducted by YouGov on behalf of TONO, three out of four Norwegians believe that background music contributes positively to a visit to a cafe, restaurant, shopping center, and the like.

During a visit to Byporten, TONO's Marketing Director, Tommy Tangløkken, asked what Morten Olesen of MPH|Milesperhour thinks would have happened if he had turned off the music.

– Then I think sales would have gone down. We are very conscious of the music we play, and always think about our customers, says Olesen.
