The Norwegian Broadcasting Orchestra and a group of the country's leading soloists perform the music in the recorded version for which Iberg won the Spellemann Prize. The work is inspired by Gustav Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde," says the composer.
– Mahler was in crisis after losing a daughter and then his faith in God. In search of solace, he turned to Taoist poetry, where the beauty of nature and eternal changes are the main motifs. My work is inspired by this, and is a work that contains both melancholy and joy, says Iberg, who in the spring of 2020 is working on preparing a chamber opera, an adaptation of a play by playwright Fredrik Brattberg.
Helge Iberg won the category in competition with Cecilie Ore for "Come to the edge", Eirik Hegdal for "Musikal Balloon" and Maja SK Ratkje for "Sult".
