Grete Pedersen, conductor of the Norwegian Soloists' Choir, has been awarded the TONO Mediator Prize 2018 for having promoted newly written Norwegian music over several decades.
/ 17/12/2018 / Willy MartinsenPedersen was presented with TONO's Mediator Award by TONO's chairwoman Ingrid Kindem during a Christmas concert with the Norwegian Soloists' Choir in the University Aula on Friday, December 14. Pedersen will receive a cash prize of NOK 50,000 and a diploma from Magne Furuholmen.
"Norwegian composers, lyricists and music publishers in the field of art music have much to thank Grete Pedersen for. As a choir conductor from the early 1980s, and as artistic director of the Norwegian Soloists Choir from 1990, more than one generation of Norwegian composers has had a co-conspirator in her. Newly written Norwegian music has been brought to the fore through countless commissions and premieres with Grete Pedersen as artistic director. Over several decades, she has been at the forefront of creating an understanding of the importance of living composers being allowed to work on their artistry, and that this must be a continuous process. This commitment makes her a representative of a culture and an insight that is absolutely crucial for a Norwegian, creative art music tradition to be able to and must live on, both in the present and into the future."
