– TONO will have a leading role in the work on copyright and framework conditions in an international perspective, and we are proud to welcome the world's management organizations to an important meeting in Oslo, says TONO's department director, Inger Elise Mey.
/ 27/09/2016 / codexOn Tuesday and Wednesday this week, TONO brings together a large number of key people and experts from more than 60 different collecting societies from around the world under the auspices of the umbrella organization CISAC, which is the global umbrella organization for collecting societies. The meeting brings together the experts in CISAC's "Media Technical Committee", as well as some international music publishers and service providers at the SAS Hotel in Oslo. At the meeting, the committee members will discuss some of the most central issues facing copyright societies today, with a main emphasis on licensing music in broadcasting and on the internet.
Cross-border issues
The reason why the world's asset management companies are looking to Norway this week is because the committee is led by TONO's department director Inger Elise Mey.
– The issues facing creators and their management organizations are largely cross-border. Therefore, it is also important to meet to exchange experiences and to think strategically with a global perspective. It is important for TONO to have a leading role in the international work on copyright and creators' framework conditions, and when I took over the chairmanship of the Media Technical Committee in 2015, I think it is very nice that TONO can co-host this year's conference, says Mey.

Record number of registered participants, record high proportion of women
Mey, in collaboration with CISAC, has put together the program for the conference, which will include lectures on the situation for creators and collecting societies in different countries, an update on the work of various authorities on copyright legislation, EU issues, market analyses, licensing of apps and films online, the copyright situation in developing countries and various issues surrounding the licensing of broadcasting and internet services, to name a few. There will also be several panel debates, one of which will be moderated by TONO's chairman Bendik Hofseth.
– We have high expectations for the conference. It is already a success in two areas: There have never been so many registrations for a Media Technical Committee conference before, and with a female proportion of almost 30 percent among the speakers, there have never been so many women on the podium, concludes Mey.
