TONO announces changes and calls for extraordinary annual meeting

TONO's board of directors has taken immediate action in an extraordinary board meeting today to respond to the criticism that has come in the last week.

At TONO's annual meeting on June 9, several key bylaw proposals from the board failed to achieve the necessary majority. This has subsequently created strong reactions. Based on this, the board has now adopted a number of immediate measures.

TONO's board emphasizes that increased member engagement is important and desirable for the organization and for member democracy. The board is now initiating changes that will strengthen collective management in a new era.

The goal is to present revised proposals and ensure progress on necessary changes, while safeguarding the diversity of member democracy.

The board has decided:

to review and adjust the proposals that did not receive a sufficient majority on June 9. This includes the composition of the board, advance voting, and a revised model for cultural funds.
to call an extraordinary annual meeting on September 1st where these will be discussed
to set up a more inclusive process towards new treatment. We will invite members, associations and partners to participate in this work.

In addition, the board has adopted the following measures with immediate effect:

to reduce the level of cultural funds of net income to up to 5 percent – until the extraordinary annual meeting
to include external expertise on TONO's board, with speaking rights (not voting rights, as this requires a change in the statutes at the annual meeting)
Postponed deadline for withdrawal for members who are now considering this.

The sentence "to reduce the level of cultural funds of net income by up to 5 percent - until the extraordinary annual meeting" was changed to "to reduce the level of cultural funds of net income for up to 5 percent – until the extraordinary annual meeting”.
