TONO currently pays out NOK 240,2 million to composers, lyricists and music publishers in Norway and abroad. Of this, NOK 134,9 million goes to TONO members, of which NOK 72,2 million is for concerts in Norway. – This is one of the largest payments in a quarter from TONO, and it is particularly pleasing to see such good activity in the concert area, says CEO Karl Vestli.
/ 29/09/2023 / Willy MartinsenCollective management of music rights creates value for both those who create musical works and those who use them. TONO represents over 40,000 members and several million of their colleagues from other countries. Radio and TV channels, concert organizers, streaming services, etc. are granted permission by TONO to use our world repertoire for a fee. As a non-profit cooperative, we at TONO pay money to you and other rights holders in musical works based on reports we receive about performed music.
TONO is settling a total of NOK 240,2 million this time. Of this, NOK 134,9 million goes to TONO members and NOK 100,5 million to rights holders in other countries. As always, we also reserve funds for currently unidentified rights holders and musical works, currently unannounced musical works, non-members and disputed rights. This time, this amounts to NOK 4,6 million.
TONO's September settlement is usually the largest of the year's four main settlements. This is because this is the major concert settlement. This time we are settling for concerts that took place in 2022.

Below you can see the development in the amounts we have settled for concerts in Norway since 2019.
2021 and 2022 were characterized by the Covid-19 lockdowns. The figures are given in millions of kroner.

Below you can see how the total settlement amount of NOK 240,2 million is distributed across rights categories and areas of use.

* Many TONO customers in the background music sector (hairdressers, restaurants, etc.) do not report to TONO what they play. The income from this is distributed on reports received from radio and for concerts. In recent years, however, TONO has established reporting partnerships with a number of suppliers of music services for businesses. An increasingly large part of the background music income is thus distributed on the basis of documented music playbacks.
Those of TONO's members who have received payments today have received a somewhat longer version of this settlement letter.
Questions from TONO members about the settlement should be directed to member service at 22 05 72 80 or medlem@tono.no.
