Record-high payout to Norwegian music creators
TONO is now paying out NOK 145,2 million to its members – the largest autumn payout ever. This also includes a record concert payout of NOK 77,6 million. – Concerts are important for Norwegian music creators, and it is therefore gratifying that we can pay out more from concerts to Norwegian music creators than ever before, says TONO CEO, Karl Vestli.

This is a significant increase from previous years, and reflects the increased turnover in the concert market. TONO's autumn payment is normally TONO's largest payment, and the most important for Norwegian music creators.
– There is great interest in live concerts in Norway, and this is reflected in this record payout. For many music creators, concert performances form an important part of their income base, and we are happy to be able to help them get what they deserve, says Karl Vestli, CEO of TONO.
TONO also pays out copyright revenues to songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers in other countries. This time, the amount is 87,4 million kroner. With 5,4 million reserved for musical works that TONO does not yet have sufficient information about to be able to pay out money, the total amount settled this time is 238 million kroner.
In addition to providing music creators with concert income, TONO also pays out significant funds from usage to its members from abroad, streaming services, radio and TV.
From abroad, NOK 31,8 million is paid out. From music streaming, a total of NOK 28,4 million is paid out, of which NOK 19,6 million goes to Norwegian authors. From film streaming, NOK 25,3 million is paid out, of which NOK 3,8 million goes to Norwegian rights holders.
Music on the radio accounts for 21,8 million kroner in payments, of which 8 million kroner goes to Norwegian songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers. For music on TV, 10,9 million kroner is paid out. Of this, 1,9 million goes to TONO members.
Among the smaller areas are background music (total 5,2 million), church services and other faith-based contexts (2,9 million kroner), cinema films (1,4 million kroner), and premiere performances (approximately 200,000 kroner).
27,010 TONO members receive payments (19,3 percent women, 79,5 percent men and 1,3 percent without registered gender in TONO). Of these, almost 25,000 receive online payments, almost 15,000 receive radio payments, more than 12,000 receive payments from abroad, almost 10,000 receive concert payments. Furthermore, approximately 2800 receive payments for TV, 2300 for music in stores, while fewer than 300 receive cinema payments and approximately 250 for premiere performances.
TONO represents more than 42,000 Norwegian authors, and millions from other countries. The organization creates value for businesses that want to use music, while ensuring that music that is used, nationally and internationally, generates income for the rights holders.
