FIRST PAYMENT IN NEW BILLING SYSTEM
The 2026 Mars settlement is a milestone: for the first time, a TONO payment is made in the new core settlement system. At the same time, the payment is lower than normal, because music streaming, video on demand and concerts are postponed to separate settlements in April and June.
/ 20/03/2026 / Kristian DugstadOn Friday, March 20, TONO will pay out NOK 51,146,788 to music creators worldwide. NOK 31 million of this will go to TONO members, while NOK 19,2 million will go to copyright holders abroad. In total, 15,874 TONO members will receive payments in March. Based on social security numbers, we can see that among these, 2,961 are women and 12,506 are men.
The March payment is lower than normal. The reason is that several settlement areas are currently postponed due to the implementation of TONO's new core settlement system and the transition to a new partner (ICE) for music streaming licensing. To ensure that everything is processed correctly, TONO has concentrated the March settlement on TV, radio, cinema and international revenues.
Music streaming will be paid in a separate settlement at the end of April. Video on demand and concerts will be settled in June. A smaller number of members will still receive payment for VOD and concerts already in March, where TONO is confident that the settlement can be carried out correctly.
The international settlement is NOK 23,9 million and is by far the largest single area in this payment. This is income for the use of Norwegian music around the world, collected by TONO's sister societies and forwarded to TONO.
During the week after the payout, TONO will launch a new feature for Search in Settlement. The feature collects all settlement data in one place and provides a better overview of where in the world, from which areas of use and forms the members' works have generated settlement. The feature is launched as a beta version and will be improved and updated continuously.
