TONO is now paying out NOK 221,2 million to songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers at home and abroad in the second ordinary TONO payment of the year.
/ 12/06/2025 / Willy MartinsenTONO's vision is to create value for everyone who creates and uses music. Through our collective management of music rights, TONO can currently pay out NOK 221,2 million to songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers at home and abroad. 27,900 of TONO's own members will receive a total of NOK 68,3 million in this second payment for the year.
– The largest total payout amount to TONO members in this year's June settlement is, as usual, music streaming. This is followed by radio and international revenues. To music creators and music publishers in other countries, the largest payouts come from TV, radio and film streaming, says TONO CEO Karl Vestli.
TV constitutes the largest total payout area, with NOK 92,5 million divided into NOK 8,3 million to TONO members and NOK 82,9 million to music creators and music publishers abroad.
Radio constitutes the second largest total area with 40,2 million kroner. Of this, 13,5 million kroner goes to TONO members and 25,4 million kroner goes abroad.
Music streaming is the third largest overall area with 33,5 million kroner to be paid out. Of the total amount, 20,5 million kroner goes to TONO members and 12,7 million kroner goes abroad.
This is followed by video on demand, international, NCB (physical), background music, concerts, cinema premieres and ceremonies (church services and the like).
The June payment this year is lower than in June last year. This is because last year's June settlement contained large back payments, and that several payments in this year's settlement have been delayed. Both TONO and several of our sister societies are undergoing extensive technological system changes. This is leading to temporary delays, including for revenues from Germany, France, Italy and Japan. Until the new systems are fully operational, TONO's main focus is to ensure that everything is correct, so that the correct licensees receive the correct payments. Several of the deferred amounts are planned to be paid in September, provided that the necessary technical and tax conditions are in place.
Music is a central part of value creation for streaming services, TV and radio channels, concert organizers, cinemas, hotels, cafes and other businesses. Through the TONO license, these players gain legal access to a wide range of music from both Norwegian and international songwriters, composers, lyricists and music publishers.
TONO works continuously with licensing, negotiations, obtaining music reports and distributing remuneration. The goal is to ensure that those who create the music receive their rightful share of the value they help create. TONO makes four main payments a year.
TONO members have today received settlement letters by email, and can log in to My TONO to see information about their payment.
