/ 23/05/2025 / Willy Martinsen– Music publishers constitute a valuable and very important member group in TONO, and we want even closer dialogue and cooperation with them in the future. Membership in IMPF and ICMP contributes positively to this, and strengthens our role as a value creator and central partner for music publishers both in Norway and internationally, says Karl Vestli, CEO of TONO.
TONO manages mechanical and performance rights in musical works on behalf of composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers. In 2025, TONO had more than 43,000 members, approximately 1 percent of whom were music publishers.
– The music publishers represent many of TONO's most active members, and are important supporters for them both creatively and commercially. The music publishers are also important partners for TONO through our shared interest in building a healthy creative economy. By expanding our international involvement, in the world's two most important international music publishing organizations, we are building on TONO's vision of creating value for creators and users of music, says CEO Karl Vestli.

The music publishers are represented on TONO's board and other governing committees. Deputy Chair of TONO's board, Mia Hallesby, believes that the involvement in the two music publishing organizations is an important step in strengthening TONO's position:
– That TONO now joins ICMP and IMPF is an important and right step to strengthen the voice of Norwegian music management internationally. As vice-chairman of TONO and chairman of the board of Musikkforlaggerne, I am pleased that we are now standing together with the industry's key players internationally, both the major and the independent, in the work for better framework conditions and increased visibility for authors and music publishers in an increasingly globalized music industry, says Hallesby.
