The TONO award in the category "Challenger of the Year" goes to someone, according to the jury, "an exceptional communicator and a challenger in the music world." The award winner is bassist, singer and composer Ellen Andrea Wang.
/ 17/08/2013 / codex– It is absolutely fantastic and a great honor to receive the TONO award. The song "Call me" was written out of frustration with a little cry to be noticed. And with this award I will be just that. This is incredibly motivating and inspiring, and I see it as a great vote of confidence, says Ellen Andrea Wang. The TONO award consists of 50,000 kroner and a diploma designed by Rune Mortensen.
Ellen Andrea Wang is young, but has already managed to get noticed. Last year she was named musician of the month by a prestigious Japanese music magazine, and she and the band Pixel have recently received a record deal with an American record label. Wang is involved in a number of different constellations and projects, and will also participate in the NRK production Jazzlab in August, along with Stian Carstensen, Gard Nilsen and Ola Kvernberg, among others.
