The Øya Festival receives the award for exceptional communication of landmark musical experiences and for showing openness and curiosity in relation to different musical expressions without compromising on professional quality and sincere love for the music. Ingrid Kindem from the jury presented the award during the Øya Festival on Saturday, August 13.

– It is always great to receive this type of recognition from other industry players. We take it as a pat on the back and as inspiration to continue working forward, says Øyafestivalen's press spokesman Jonas Prangerød to . The award consists of a diploma from Rune Mortensen and kr 50,000. The Øya Festival will donate the prize money to the Norwegian Refugee Council and their work in the Horn of Africa.

The jury's reasoning

A lot of great music is both created and performed in Norway. In order for the audience to get their well-deserved goosebumps and for the music to get the place it deserves in the public eye, composers and performers depend on the music being presented by concert organizers, producers and institutions that give the music a worthy setting. This year, TONO is presenting an award to an exceptional communicator for the first time. On behalf of Norway's creators and women, we would like to thank them for their commitment and give the award for this year's exceptional communicator to Øyafestivalen. The award does not go to one person, but to a horde of enthusiasts who, over ten years ago, wanted to create an event in Oslo that could give the audience groundbreaking musical experiences. The result was a festival that in a short time developed into one of Norway's most important music festivals. A festival that is characterized by openness and curiosity in relation to different musical expressions without compromising on professional quality and sincere love for the music. A festival that shows social commitment and environmental awareness, and which is a safe place for the audience to experience both their favorite artists and music they didn't know they liked. The festival's reputation brings deserved attention from abroad. It gives Norwegian artists the opportunity to stand on a stage in Norway and be discovered by an international market. TONO's jury would also like to praise the long-term work that is done throughout the year, as well as the creation of a separate festival for children – Miniøya.
