AUTUMN PAYMENT 2026
TONO is paying out NOK 209 million this week to music creators at home and abroad. NOK 61,1 million of this goes to TONO members, while NOK 143,2 million is paid to rights holders in other countries. The concert payment is the first to be made in full under TONO's new concert settlement model, introduced in the fall of 2025.
/ 25/09/2026 / Willy MartinsenIn the third quarter of this year, TONO paid out a total of NOK 209,224,721 to rights holders at home and abroad. The payment includes income from TV, radio, concerts, third-party TV distribution, video on demand, ceremonies and use of TONO's repertoire in Finland, Denmark and Belgium.
Of the total amount, NOK 61,1 million goes to TONO members and NOK 143,2 million to TONO's international sister societies, while NOK 4,8 million is reserved for unidentified rights holders and musical works, unannounced musical works, non-members and disputed rights.
We are settling 6 million kroner from Finland, Denmark and Belgium. As previously communicated, including in an email to members last week, other countries will be settled as soon as practically possible. This is due to technical issues related to the introduction of new settlement solutions.
TONO members who do not wish to wait for a later payment of their foreign settlement can receive an advance payment. Please contact the Membership Department at medlem@tono.no or telephone 22 05 72 80 if this is relevant to you.
This settlement is the first to be fully paid under the new settlement model. which was introduced in September 2025In the previous settlement model, income from background music was distributed based on reports from concerts and NRK. In addition, the TONO schemes had subsidized concert pools and premiere performances.
In the new model, only income from the individual concert performance is the basis for the payment for the concert. Background music income is now distributed on a broader basis based on actual use of music across, among other things, radio, concerts and streaming. For many, this will mean lower concert payments than for similar concerts in previous years.
If you have any questions about this or other matters related to concert billing, please contact the membership department.
Over the next couple of weeks, a new payment will be made from TONO. This includes music streaming. Streaming revenues are normally settled as part of the main settlement, but this time have been delayed by two weeks. This is due to the transition to the company ICE as a new partner for licensing and administration of music streaming. This was also notified in the above email to members last week.
