Concerts, songwriting camps and celebrations of the Sami National Day. These are some of the things happening at Sami Music Week 2023.
/ 03/02/2023 / Kristian DugstadSami Music Week is a music industry festival held annually in Alta. The festival focuses on Sami music culture, professionalization and bridging the gap between the music industry in the north and south.
Over the past ten years or so, the festival has established itself as an important meeting place, and TONO has been a partner since 2020.
The festival kicks off on Monday, February 6. A day of great significance, completely independent of Sami Music Week – namely the Sami National Day. This does not go unnoticed, and the festival is responsible for the cultural program during the celebration.
During the solemn celebration at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Campus Alta, the audience can experience, among other things, classical performing musician Hege Andersson interpreting joik on the clarinet.
The rest of the week, the public and the music industry can experience a number of concerts under the auspices of SMW. The shooting star Katarina Barruk and the legends in Rolffa, to name a few.

The Arctic Song Lab songwriter camp was first held in 2018, and has become a regular part of Sami Music Week's program. Songwriters and producers from Sapmi, Norway and abroad will gather at Thon Hotel Alta on Friday, February 10th.
On Saturday, February 11, an open listening session will be held where the results of the intensive 24-hour period will be presented.
On this day, both camp participants and other interested parties are also invited to a professional seminar with information from, among others, NOPA, FONO and TONO.
