The entire music economy is built on songs, and the work done by songwriters, composers and lyricists. But what is the state of the songwriter economy in Norway in 2024? What is the income of two of Norway's biggest songwriters from radio, concerts, streaming, royalties, syncing and so on? Do they write for or with others? How do they distribute TONO percentages? What is required to ensure fair compensation for Norwegian rights holders in the face of technology giants? How do TONO and the major companies handle challenges from new players who challenge established contract forms? The panel discusses the complex processes behind the scenes and provides an honest insight into how satisfied they are with today's payment models and levels.

The investment company Lightspeed has invested 1,3 billion kroner in the AI service Suno, which they claim can produce “full length songs worthy of Top 40 radio”, without the “creator” having to do anything other than enter a text about what kind of song they want to make. At the same time, the world’s largest record companies – Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and Warner Music Group – have filed a lawsuit against Suno and Udio, demanding billions for extensive copyright infringement. The EU has adopted “The AI Act”, and the Norwegian Copyright Act is to be amended to regulate the challenges of artificial intelligence. What does all this mean for the future of human songwriters and musicians?
