TONO and the Norwegian Music Council (NMR) have extended the agreement that regulates performances of music TONO manages for a total of 4370 performing arts groups belonging to 15 of NMR's member organizations. The agreement is valid for up to two years, from 1 January 2020 to 31 December 2021.
/ 04/03/2020 / Willy MartinsenThe agreement regulates the right to perform the musical works managed by TONO and the groups' payment to TONO for this. The agreement only covers the performance of music at concerts arranged by the performing groups themselves. It therefore does not cover concerts where they are engaged by other organizers. In such cases, the organizers must obtain permission from TONO in the ordinary manner.
– We are pleased to have agreed on this agreement. It regulates a relatively large volume of concerts, and thus provides predictability for both TONO and the performing teams. At the same time, a framework agreement like this provides great gains in terms of time and resources spent on the administration of invoicing and reporting work, says Geir Gaarder, Director of Negotiations at TONO.
– The framework agreement with TONO helps to ensure that performing groups such as choirs, bands and orchestras can play as many concerts as they can within the limitations of the agreement, and thus avoid having to apply for permission in each individual case. It is important that the groups fill out music reports after each concert, to help ensure that the remuneration paid reaches the correct author, says Bjarne Dæhli, Secretary General of the Norwegian Music Council.
The agreement means that remuneration for all concerts with a turnover of less than kr 50.000 in ticket revenue is handled by the central level, while fees for concerts above this size are calculated in each case and invoiced to the individual team.
