TONO and Knowit to modernize music rights management

TONO connects the world's music creators with companies such as Spotify, Netflix, NRK and Live Nation. Now the organization has chosen Knowit as a technology partner in a comprehensive investment in future-oriented solutions for managing TONO's music rights. Among the services that will be developed is an online store for music rights.

– TONO simplifies music licensing for Norwegian businesses while ensuring that the world's music creators get paid. We are now in the midst of a digital transformation that will strengthen our position as a data-driven organization, while delivering better user experiences to both music creators and music users. We chose Knowit after a thorough process with several suppliers. We were impressed by their breadth of expertise, their commitment and their understanding of the challenges we are to solve, says TONO CEO, Karl Vestli.

Exciting project

Knowit is thrilled to have been chosen to lead the project:

– For us, this is a very exciting project. TONO is a central player in Norwegian society and the music industry, and is at the same time an offensive and forward-looking organization. The project suits us incredibly well because it requires an interdisciplinary approach. We get to use cutting-edge expertise from a wide range of professional environments in Knowit, says Stine Strandvik, customer manager for TONO at Knowit.

Better and more efficient services

Knowit will assist with the development of new tools internally at TONO, as well as further development of the member and customer portal Mitt TONO. Through automation and better solutions for the administration of TONO's music rights, operations will be streamlined and strengthened. Key words are increased data quality, more frequent payments to music creators, and the possibility of constantly developing new services for creators and users of music.

On the user side, that is, both music creators and music users, there will be new and user-friendly solutions for self-service, better user interfaces and increased visibility into one's own data.

– We handle enormous amounts of data about rights holders, musical works, streaming, concerts, radio and TV broadcasts, and we manage large sums of money with an annual turnover of around one billion kroner. Our vision is to create value for creators and users of music, and now we are making a real leap to ensure that we can do this in the future, says Vestli.
