TONO hopes animated film will bring new members

A new animated film from TONO will engage young music creators, and help reach even more people with the message that membership in TONO provides income that composers and lyricists would otherwise miss out on.

Despite TONO gaining approximately 1600 new members a year, and having a total of over 33,000 members, it is important for TONO to continually reach new young music creators. With a new animated film, the organization hopes to reach young music creators who have not yet joined:

– TONO is for everyone who creates their own music and lyrics. It is important for us to reach out with a positive message to young people that their music is protected by copyright, and that membership in TONO allows them to earn money from their music. We know that both TONO and copyright can be difficult to quickly understand, and therefore it has been important for us to communicate simply, and I believe we have achieved that, says Willy Martinsen, Head of Communications at TONO.

With the film, TONO will attempt to reach young music creators both on Facebook and other social media, but will also make a targeted push over the New Year to reach music teachers both in primary schools and not least in the country's cultural schools, as well as other organizations that are involved in connection with young musicians and composers.

In working on the film, TONO has had assistance from the agency Netron Film, and not least composer, musician – and of course TONO member – Vegard Dahlin Skau Hansen.

About TONO:
TONO is a non-profit cooperative, founded in 1928, owned and managed by its members: composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers. TONO manages performance rights for musical works in Norway and collects remuneration for their public performance. TONO currently represents nearly 34,000 Norwegian composers, lyricists and music publishers. Through mutual representation agreements with similar companies in other countries, TONO practically manages the world repertoire in Norway. As a non-profit enterprise, TONO's results are transferred to the rights holders in performed works. TONO thus facilitates the use of music in society, while at the same time providing TONO's members with a basis for constantly creating new musical works. For more information: www.tono.no
