On October 1, TONO will once again begin licensing music for online church services. Congregations must now enter into an agreement with TONO and pay a fee for this activity.
/ 30/09/2021 / Kristian DugstadAs a result of the very stringent infection control measures, TONO has granted a temporary exemption from ordinary licensing of music in online church services since January 1st of this year. This exemption will expire on Friday, October 1st.
The exemption from licensing music for online services was a measure TONO introduced because national infection control restrictions prevented congregations from holding physical services. Now that society has reopened, it is natural that the exemption also ends, says Inger Elise Mey, Director of Online Media at TONO.
Congregations within and outside the Church of Norway that wish to broadcast church services with music online must therefore enter into an ordinary TONO agreement for use.
The TONO fee paid goes to the authors who created the music used in the broadcast.
