According to its statutes, TONO shall work towards the creation of innovative musical works. TONO's scholarship schemes are an important measure to support this task. Today, all of this year's applicants for the TONO scholarship and Young Talents have received an email from us with a response as to whether they have been awarded a scholarship this year or not.

The scholarship committee has based its work on the criteria that are described on tono.no, and which also became mentioned in the announcement of the scholarships on March 18, 2025.

Those who have been awarded scholarships will be paid the money next week, i.e. week 22.

Three levels

This year we are giving out a total of 14670000 kroner in TONO Scholarships – at three main levels. 13 scholarships of 120 have been awarded000 kroner, 50 scholarships of 60000 kroner and 337 scholarships on 30000 kroner.

A Young Talents Scholarship This year we are giving away a total of 1834000 NOK – divided into 280 scholarships, at three levels. 9 scholarships are awarded out of 10000 kroner, 59 on 8000 kroner and 212 on 6000 kroner.

See the list of scholarship recipients here
(Note, at 11:30 on May 22nd, a list of TONO grant recipients was first published that contained a few errors. This has now been corrected. The correct list was published at 1:30 the same day)

The scholarship funds are financed by cultural funds.

The scholarship funds that are awarded come from TONO's cultural funds, in line with §58 of TONO's statutes. The statutes state that TONO shall make a deduction of up to 1/10 of the settlements to cultural funds.

In practice, the annual allocation to cultural funds amounts to approximately 6 percent of TONO's gross income and 7-8 percent of the distribution sums.

Of the cultural funds, 1/3 goes to scholarships, of which 7/8 goes to the TONO scholarship and 1/8 to the Music Publishers' scholarships.

The remaining 2/3 goes to national music and cultural purposes, and is managed by the group associations NOPA, the Norwegian Composers' Association and the Music Publishers Association. The funds will be used for the best interests of all TONO members. You can read more about the cultural funds here:

Three-week appeal deadline

You can appeal the scholarship committee's decision to TONO's board within three weeks of receiving notification of the decision. It is only possible to appeal the case processing, not the committee's discretion.
