TONO is now awarding NOK 14,060,000 in scholarships distributed across 820 applications, of which 430 are under the TONO scholarship and 390 under the Young Talents scholarship.
/ 23/05/2023 / Willy MartinsenToday, all applicants for the TONO scholarship and Young Talents have received an email with information about the outcome of the scholarship assessment. Those who have been granted a scholarship will receive their scholarships on May 24th to the account numbers they provided in their applications.
The scholarship committee has based its assessments on the criteria described on TONO.no, and which were informed about at the announcement of the scholarships on March 8, 2023.
As in the last three years, the scholarship committee chose this year to emphasize a certain "solidarity profile" by not awarding scholarships at the highest level. Therefore, in 2023, TONO scholarships will be awarded at the levels of NOK 50,000 and NOK 25,000. Some scholarships of NOK 12,500 have also been awarded to applicants who have applied for scholarships for projects that are completely or partially the same.
54 scholarships of NOK 50,000, 372 scholarships of NOK 25,000 and 4 scholarships of NOK 12,500 have been awarded. 20 of the applications were submitted on behalf of several people, for a total of 30 co-applicants.
430 TONO scholarships have thus been awarded to a total of 460 TONO members, for a total sum of NOK 12,050,000.
The Young Talents scholarship is awarded to applicants in the age group of 17-23 years without regard to minimum income or membership period in TONO. This year, 12 scholarships of NOK 10,000 and 378 scholarships of NOK 5,000 will be awarded. In total, 390 scholarships will be awarded, out of a total scholarship amount of NOK 2,010,000.

This year, TONO received a total of 1575 applications for the TONO scholarship and the Young Talents scholarship.
The scholarship committee's decision may be appealed to TONO's board within three weeks of the applicant receiving notification of the decision. The right to appeal only applies to the case processing, not the committee's discretion.
The financing of the TONO grant is carried out through the cultural funds in accordance with §58 of TONO's statutes. In accordance with the statutes, a deduction of up to 1/10 of the settlements for each TONO rights holder is made before the distribution of the total net amount. In 2022, this deduction amounted to 7,08% of TONO's distribution sum.
The cultural funds are distributed so that 2/3 go to national music and cultural purposes through NOPA, the Norwegian Composers' Association and the Music Publishers, and the remaining 1/3 goes to scholarships. The scholarship share is further distributed, where 1/8 goes to the Music Publishers' scholarships and 7/8 goes to the TONO scholarship.
