TONO has entered into a new licensing agreement with SoundCloud. The agreement has been entered into through Polaris Hub, a joint venture established by the management companies TONO (NO), Koda (DK) and Teosto (FI). Polaris Hub licenses the repertoire of these three Nordic companies on digital services both locally and internationally.

The agreement was signed in connection with last week's launch of the new subscription service SoundCloud Go+ in Norway, Denmark and Finland.

– With this agreement, we are one step closer to ensuring that composers, lyricists and music publishers who are members of TONO get paid when their music is used, regardless of platform, all over the world, says Inger Elise Mey, Department Director for Online Media at TONO.

The SoundCloud Go+ subscription service gives users access to repertoire from established artists, record labels and music publishers, in addition to user-uploaded music, DJ sets and remixes, as SoundCloud is known to most.

Nordic cooperation

Polaris Hub is a collaboration between the Nordic collective management companies TONO (NO), Koda (DK) and Teosto (FI).

Polaris Hub represents the three companies in negotiations and agreements with international digital music platforms. The goal is to offer the Nordic repertoire to music users worldwide, and reduce costs for the services and the companies' members.

– It is a pleasure to be able to offer the Nordic repertoire on the new SoundCloud Go+ service. This is another important milestone for our members, says Inger Elise Mey.

About TONO:

TONO is a non-profit cooperative, founded in 1928, owned and managed by its members: composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers. TONO manages performance rights for musical works in Norway and collects remuneration for their public performance. TONO currently represents nearly 34,000 Norwegian composers, lyricists and music publishers. Through mutual representation agreements with similar companies in other countries, TONO practically manages the world repertoire in Norway. As a non-profit enterprise, TONO's results are transferred to the rights holders in performed works. TONO thus facilitates the use of music in society, while at the same time providing TONO's members with a basis for constantly creating new musical works. For more information: www.tono.no
