NOK 90,8 million will be distributed among 24,022 TONO members when the third settlement of the year is carried out on Wednesday, September 29. Licensees abroad will receive NOK 58,1 million.
/ 28/09/2021 / Kristian DugstadTONO will settle NOK 152,1 million on Wednesday this week to composers, lyricists and music publishers in Norway and abroad. This is the third of TONO's four annual quarterly settlements.
NOK 90,8 million is paid to 24,022 of TONO's members, while NOK 58,1 million is sent to rights holders abroad through TONO's agreements with foreign management companies. NOK 3,2 million is withheld to be paid to currently unidentified rights holders and musical works, unreported musical works, non-members and disputed rights.
TONO is now also paying compensation for Covid-19-related loss of concert income for 2020. These are funds allocated to TONO from the Ministry of Culture. You can read more about this in the case How TONO distributes the Ministry of Culture's covid-19 compensation.
Concert, online and abroad
The autumn settlement is TONO's largest concert settlement, and the largest area in this settlement is consequently concert and liveTONO will settle over NOK 61 million from the concert area on Wednesday this week. This includes settlement for streaming concerts and church services.
The second largest areas are settlement from abroad and the online area with NOK 28,9 and 28,2 million respectively.
The online area includes music streaming services, where Spotify, YouTube, iTunes, Google Play and Beatport are billed for different time periods, and video on-demand services, which includes Netflix, Viaplay, Altibox, Google Play VOD, SF Anytime and Amazon Prime. The latter is settled for 2016-2018.
Television and radio
From radio and TV, NOK 15,4 and 14,8 million are settled, respectively. From radio NRK's 15 channels, Bauer Media's nine radio channels and the P4 Group's nine radio channels will be settled for the first quarter of 2021. 33 local radio channels will be settled for 2020. From broadcast on television NRK's five channels, TV2's seven channels and TV Norge will be billed for use of music in the 1st quarter of 2021. In addition, NRK's web player and TV2 Sumo will be billed for the 4th quarter of 2020.
We also settle from 3rd party TV distribution, that is, where distributors other than the channels themselves offer the channels to the public. This is a completely separate area, and is treated separately from broadcasting. The settlements here come from the channels Fem, Max and Vox for the second half of 2020.
