In 2018, it will be 90 years since TONO was established by a group of forward-thinking Norwegian composers. From a humble beginning in 1928, TONO is today a company with more than 30,000 members, while representing more than 2,5 million composers in Norway and abroad. We have tens of thousands of customers, 64 employees – and not least, we entered the anniversary year with our best annual results ever.

Throughout all these years, we have experienced a rapid technological development from radio to television to cable distribution, satellite distribution, LP records, cassettes, CDs, mini-discs, streaming, and so on. There is not much in 2018 that resembles 1928.

We have learned over these 90 years that nothing comes by itself. We still work every day for copyright both in Norway and internationally, we negotiate with major players, we license concerts, we invoice, we settle, we recruit new members, we inform and we also take battles to court if we have to.

On this page we want to shed light on our history, the present and a little bit about the future from different perspectives. Here you will meet some of TONO's employees, you will meet members, TONO's first customer, we will tell you about our international involvement and we have also looked outside our inner circle to say a little bit about the music listeners and about Norwegian music through these 90 years.

We at TONO's administration would like to send a thank you to all members and all customers on the occasion of this anniversary for the Norwegian community of composers, lyricists and music publishers.
