Biggest summer payout from TONO ever

Almost 30,000 TONO members are taking part in the largest June payout ever. This year's summer payout is NOK 256,4 million, more than NOK 36 million more than last year.

TONO is a collective management company. Broadcasters, streaming services, concert organizers and so on who want to use the music TONO manages on behalf of 40,000 Norwegian members and millions of rights holders from the rest of the world receive TONO's permission to use the music in return for payment.

As a non-profit company, we distribute TONO royalties to composers, lyricists, songwriters and music publishers in Norway and abroad. The collective management creates benefits for both the creators and users of music.

NOK 89,9 million to TONO's members

Friday, June 7th is "payday" for TONO members. On that day, TONO will pay out a total of NOK 256,4 million to licensees at home and abroad. This marks the largest June payout in TONO's history.

Of the 256,4 million that is paid out, 89,9 million goes to 27,437 TONO members, while 161,4 million kroner goes to music creators in other countries. As always, money is also set aside for currently unidentified rights holders and works, currently unregistered works, non-members and disputed rights. This time, this is 5 million kroner.

The number of women receiving compensation from TONO has increased by a full 8,69 percent compared to last year.

This year's June payment has increased by a total of NOK 36,4 million, from NOK 219,9 million in 2023. Of this, NOK 65,8 million went to TONO members. The comparison is not adjusted for inflation.

Here are some figures and facts about the TONO members who will receive their settlement in June:

• 27,437 TONO members receive settlement
• 25,952 TONO members receive billing for plays on music and movie streaming services
• 12,960 receive settlements from sister societies abroad (radio, TV, concerts, cinema, internet, etc.)
• 11,175 receive compensation for TV broadcasts
• 9,662 receive compensation for radio play
• 6,317 receive reimbursement for private copying.
• 1,827 receive compensation for concert.
• 7,828 women receive compensation compared to 19,839 men (based on registered social security numbers in TONO). This corresponds to a female proportion of 27,8 percent (TONO also compensates 540 people for whom we lack social security numbers).

On My TONO You can view your balance and all transactions in your member account at any time. You can also search for settlement data for individual works across periods and categories with details about the individual transfers. Settlement vouchers showing the number of transfers per channel/area for the individual settlement runs are available for download. You can download the settlement information in PDF format or as an Excel spreadsheet. The vouchers are available from the "documents" menu on My TONO.

TONO reserves the right to make any payment errors due to circumstances beyond our control. If such an error results in a licensee receiving too much or too little payment, the error will be corrected by a subsequent payment or offset in the next payment.

This message is only sent to members with registered activity on their TONO member account. It also applies to members with active financial transfers, which means that the payment is made to an address other than the member themselves.

The payout limit is kr 250,- for members with a payment address in Norway and kr 1,000,- for members with a payment address abroad. Unpaid amounts are accumulated in the member account in TONO and paid out as soon as the balance exceeds the limit.
