TONO currently pays out NOK 169,9 million to music creators in Norway and abroad. NOK 99 million goes to TONO members, while NOK 68,5 million goes to rights holders abroad. The payout comes from the use of music on music and film streaming services, radio, TV, concerts, cinema, background music, etc.
/ 06/12/2024 / Willy Martinsen– We are pleased to be able to end the year with a solid payout. It shows the great value of the music that our members create, and that it is in demand across all channels, says TONO CEO, Karl Vestli.

A total of 29,523 TONO members are receiving money in this payment. Of these, 5,691 are women, 23,184 are men and 385 have an unknown gender. The payment includes, among other things, streaming services such as Spotify and Netflix, media companies such as NRK and Bauer media, as well as concerts, cinema, use of TONO music abroad, background music in stores and more.
The payout shows that music created by Norwegian songwriters, composers and lyricists is widely used both in Norway and internationally.
– The last payment of the year marks the end of a good year for TONO members. Each quarter we have paid out more than the year before, and this year's December payment is on par with last year's record payment, says Vestli.
For music and film streaming services, media companies, concert organizers, cinemas, hotels, cafes and so on, music provides great economic value. With the TONO license, these get the opportunity to use the best music, created by both Norwegian and foreign songwriters, composers and lyricists. TONO continuously works to ensure correct and fair payment to music creators through licensing, negotiations, obtaining music reports and distributing money. TONO pays out money four times a year.
Of the total of 169,9 million kroner being paid out now, 99 million kroner goes to TONO members, while 68,5 million kroner goes to rights holders in other countries. 2,3 million kroner has been reserved for currently unidentified rights holders, unregistered musical works and disputed rights.
