Last night, Spellemann announced that the 2019 edition is canceling all upcoming activities. The government yesterday introduced strict measures to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. One of these is the cancellation of all cultural events for the foreseeable future.

– We find it sad that we cannot close down Spellemann as planned, but we naturally have no doubt that it is the right thing to do in the current situation. It is absolutely crucial that everyone in Norway now does what they can to limit further infection. Spellemann has therefore chosen to cancel all activities until further notice, says Spellemann chairwoman Marte Thorsby.

As Spellemann's main partner, TONO finds the situation sad. However, the most important thing is that everyone follows the authorities' guidelines.

– Spellemann is a traditional celebration of Norwegian music. This is a shame for all parties involved, but absolutely necessary in the current situation, says Willy Martinsen, communications manager at TONO.

Spellemann will return with more information about when and how the awards will be presented.
