TONO's American sister society ASCAP does not normally pay out fees for concert performances – contrary to what TONO practices in Norway. You may still receive some financial compensation if you apply for the Ascap Awards.

TONO rights holders whose musical works are performed at concerts in the United States can apply for the Ascap Awards. The application period is 2013, i.e. from January 1 to December 31. The application deadline is April 29.

To apply, you must fill out an Excel form that Ascap has created. The form can be found at the bottom of the page or by clicking here: International Awards SubmissionsYou must download it and save it on your computer, fill it out and then email it to wenche.gjestvang@tono.no, who in turn forwards it to Ascap.

About filling out the form
Make sure the form has two sheets! It is easy to overlook. You must use a row for each work performed. If several of your works have been performed at the same concert, create a row for each work, where you enter the work ID and title. At least one of the three fields for work identification must be filled in for each reported work, and in the following priority order: ISWC, ASCAP Work ID or work number at TONO. The CAE number is the same as the IPI number, which you can find by logging into TONO's web services. Please contact Member Services atmedlem@tono.no or 22 05 72 80 to find out the ISWC or work number in TONO.

Regarding art music:
A copy of the printed program, if available, is required for performances of art music. Provide the filename of the program in the "attachment filename" column. Include a pdf of the printed program for ASCAP.

You only need to submit one application per performance as long as any co-composers are listed and registered as copyright holders in the individual work. As long as the work is correctly registered with the correct authors in the work at TONO, everyone will be paid for the work. It is not mandatory to list the playing time, but it is wise to include it so that you have the most thorough documentation possible.
