When and how did you start making music (for the very first time)?
We met at Trøndertun Folkehøyskole in 2014, where we lived in the same house. Here we became good friends and started playing in band projects together. Even though we listen to a lot of different music, we found a common love for older Americana. So that was the starting point, genre-wise.
What was the name of the first song you ever wrote, and what is it about?
The first song we wrote together was very Americana-inspired, to the point that it became so country that we quickly scrapped it. As far as we remember, it was about a young rebel who went out into the world to find himself. We had just seen the Cohen brothers' "Inside Llewin Davis", which is set in the USA in the early 1960s, so the song was loosely based on the film's themes and plot. We were immediately very proud of the result, but quickly realized that it was nothing more than a good try. It was called "Home again".
How did Temporary come about?
We both played in one of the many rock bands that flourished at the folk high school. We tended to be there a little before the others in the band, where we would then play folk songs and talk loosely about music. Later in the year, we recorded a demo of the song "My Final Call" which we entered into a songwriting competition. After several positive feedbacks, we realized that we had to try to take this further.
How do you work together? How does Temporary's music come about?
It varies. Sometimes we write together, sometimes separately. A song typically arises when you have an idea (melody or lyrics) and we build on that together. The song "Tumbling Down" that we had in season 3 of "Unge Lovende" was created in a classroom while we were waiting for a studio at school to become available. It was one of the songs that took the absolute shortest time to make but stands as one of our strongest songs today. Of course, this is not the case every time. On the title song for our debut album "When I Leave", we spent almost a year before we were left with a finished song.
Tell us about your latest release?
The last single we released was called "Now" and has a simple sound and a lot of space, a bit like the music we made when we first started writing songs. It is also the last single in the series in connection with our upcoming full-length.
What are you working on now?
Right now we are in the middle of things. We finished recording our debut album late in 2018, and are now working on preparations for new concerts that will be coming up later this year. We are also eagerly awaiting the vinyl release of our album, and are really looking forward to releasing it this coming Friday! (January 25th).

What does 2019 bring for Temporary?
The absolute highlight will be releasing our debut album on January 25th, which we have spent the last couple of years writing and recording here in Trondheim and Brygga Studio. We are working closely with our record label, Drabant Music, and hope for a response to this. We look forward to hearing what people think of it, both good and bad. We will also be playing several concerts throughout the year and are really looking forward to it. The first in line will be at Byscenen during Trondheim Calling
What does it mean to play at Trondheim Calling?
This has been a goal of ours for a long time. We played at Trondheim Calling as a duo in 2017, then on one of the festival's smaller stages, so this year to play on the festival's biggest stage is absolutely crazy. This will be one of our biggest concerts so far, and we have a big band backing us for the occasion, which makes it even bigger. We are now using the last few weeks before the festival to hone our set and or get comfortable playing more new songs live. This will simply be the release concert for our album, so it means a lot. There are a lot of industry people out here, so we hope to attract as many people as possible to give the album debut a lot of attention.
What is your career highlight so far?
We have many personal highlights, but the one that stands out as the best is probably the support gig we did with Jonas Alaska at Dokkhuset in 2016. This was a very special job for us as it was the first time we stood on such a big stage in front of a packed house, and not least because we got to meet Jonas Alaska. It inspired us to venture further and was our first big confirmation that what we do works. In recent times, playing our own concert to a packed house at Samfundet here in Trondheim is a highlight.
Do you have an instrument or other equipment that is indispensable in the writing process?
Guitar, vocals, coffee and a good mood. It works in a bad mood, but preferably in a good one.
What do you do when you're not making music?
Mikael works at Vinmonopolet and Jonas is studying. But we also make time to party. Regularly.
What is your greatest musical experience?
Incredibly difficult question. For me (Jonas), one that immediately comes to mind is the concert experience with Anderson .Paak at Roskilde in 2017. It was a genre I was unfamiliar with and an artist I had never heard of at the time. Mikael's highlight was being able to "moshe" to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard during the Øya Festival last summer.
