Under the guise of existing EU legislation, user-generated services, typically social media, claim exemption from liability for the content shared and used on their services. They therefore also believe that they do not have to share the income they earn from, among other things, music with the composers, songwriters and lyricists who have written and own the music. This is called "Transfer of value".
– A great injustice
– “Transfer of value” is a great injustice to TONO members, and other European composers, songwriters and lyricists. The EU copyright package, which was launched last fall, did not go far enough in making platform services responsible. At the same time, we know that there are strong forces that do not sympathize with our cause. We therefore ask our members to give their support and their names to the new petition, says TONO CEO, Cato Strøm.
Launched during "Meet the authors"
The new petition was launched during “Meet the authors”, an event in Brussels last week, where TONO, as a member of the European public administrations’ lobbying organization Gesac, was a co-organizer. We now ask you to sign again. If you signed last year, you will have received an email about this. There is no formal deadline, but please do it as soon as possible. It will not take more than a minute or two.
