Did you write music for radio or TV productions that were broadcast in 2019?

TONO's special scheme for the settlement of commissioned music for Norwegian broadcasters' own productions ended in 2019. Authors affected by the change can apply for compensation by 1 May 2021.

Until 2019, TONO had a special arrangement for commissioned music for NRK and TV2's own productions. In certain cases, the music was factored as "live", which means that it was billed at a per-minute value six times higher than other mechanically performed music. The arrangement only affected a small number of TONO members, and ended on 1 January 2019.

To make the transition to the new rules smoother, TONO has opened the door for members to apply for compensation equivalent to a step-down to factor 3 for 2019.

To apply for compensation, you must have written music for a radio or TV production that was broadcast for the first and/or second time on NRK, TV2 or another Norwegian broadcaster's radio or TV channel in 2019.

The compensation does not include vignettes or programmed music from so-called vignette packages. The production must be made by the broadcaster itself, or on order with the broadcaster's own equipment. Compensation is not given if the synchronization has been cleared with NCB.

Send your application for compensation by email to avregning@tono.no by May 1st.
