TONO has sister societies around the world that, through our reciprocity agreement, will ensure that transfers are settled for our members.
Companies have different distribution rules and practices. Many companies settle for all concerts where fees have been collected and received. Other companies instead carry out a form of "sampling", which means that incoming fees are settled for a selection of reported concert performances.
How quickly TONO receives settlement from the various sister societies varies. Several companies settle quarterly, but there are still a number of companies that only settle 1-2 times per year. TONO's goal is to pay out settlement from abroad as quickly as possible to our licensees. We settle money from abroad four times a year. However, different countries are settled each time, so it is not possible to say in advance which country will be settled when.
You must allow for a longer time from transfer abroad to settlement from TONO. The transfer must first be processed in the relevant sister society before being forwarded to TONO for local processing. Receiving the settlement 2-3 years after the transfer is not unusual.
Remember that all companies have different billing rules and routines that TONO cannot influence. For example, many companies use so-called "sampling" in broadcasting - i.e. a statistical selection of reports (a certain number of weeks) is used that is supposed to represent the entire year. Your work must then be included in this selection in order to receive billing.
If you have played concerts abroad, it would be nice if you reported them to us so that we can follow up with the relevant company. You can report concerts you have played abroad on Mitt TONO in the same way as concerts in Norway.
