TONO's new board has developed new main principles over the summer for how TONO will distribute and settle remuneration to composers, lyricists and music publishers.

The principles are clear, easy to understand, and follow a European standard by being recognizable with the principles already adopted by other European collective management societies. TONO's board of directors collectively supports a recommendation to TONO's voting members to adopt them at the extraordinary annual meeting.

Fruitful board work after the annual meeting on June 11th

The background to the board's work to develop new main principles for TONO's distribution practices is that TONO's annual meeting in June voted against the original proposal.

The board and administration acknowledge that the principles and information presented at the annual meeting could create uncertainty about what should be adopted. TONO has also noted the criticism that members were not given sufficient information or time to familiarize themselves with the matter. This is now being addressed through clearer principles and by arranging a new information meeting. This will be held on 19 August at the Popsenteret in Oslo, with the possibility of digital participation.

Decisions necessary to comply with the law

It is crucial that the extraordinary annual meeting adopts the new principles so that a modernized accounting model can be implemented. This will ensure that TONO's operations comply with Norwegian law, relevant EU directives, international CISAC business rules and strict requirements from both sister societies and members. The TONO board therefore encourages voting TONO members to attend both the information meeting and the annual meeting, and to vote in favor of the new principles.

Further details about the information meeting and the annual meeting, as well as relevant documents, have been sent to TONO's voting members by email on August 14. Also read this story: "Members with voting rights have received an invitation to the extraordinary annual meeting".
