Large settlement for concerts in Norway

In September each year, TONO settles the money for concerts that took place in Norway the previous year. This is usually the largest of the year's four main settlements.

Of the total settlement amount of NOK 240 million, this time NOK 72,2 million is settlement for Norwegian concerts. The majority of this money is distributed to TONO members.

– This is one of the largest payments in a quarter from TONO, and it is particularly pleasing to see such good activity in the concert area, says CEO Karl Vestli.

Below you can see the development in the amounts we have settled for concerts in Norway since 2019.
2021 and 2022 were characterized by the Covid-19 lockdowns. The figures are given in millions of kroner.

Christmas songs at their best

TONO has looked at which musical works generate the most revenue and which works have been performed the most times. In both cases, there is a clear trend.

– When it comes to concert performances, Christmas carols top our lists. The Christmas season is particularly characterized by music, and therefore it is natural that Christmas music creates great value and is performed many times, says Vestli.

These three musical works were performed in concert the most times in 2022. Music publishers in parentheses.

  1. Northern Norwegian Christmas Carol by Trygve Hoff (Norwegian Note Service)
  2. Christmas Dream by Alf Prøysen and Thoralf Borg (Norsk Musikforlag)
  3. Christmas Eve Carols by Alf Prøysen and Arnljot Høyland (Norsk Musikforlag and Cantando Musikkforlag)

The Northern Norwegian Christmas Carol was performed in concert more than 450 times last year.
