/ 09/01/2020 / Willy Martinsen– It has been a complicated and exhausting case that started all the way back in 2012 when TONO first sued RiksTV. The negotiations on the amount of compensation after the victory in the Supreme Court in December 2018 have also been demanding. We are now pleased that we have agreed on a settlement in the case, and we look forward to a good and clear business relationship with RiksTV in the years to come, says CEO Cato Strøm.
The actual compensation case has been ongoing since spring 2019, when TONO presented its claims to RiksTV following the Supreme Court's ruling in TONO's favor in December 2018. RiksTV did not accept TONO's compensation claim, and the case regarding the compensation settlement therefore continued in Oslo District Court. The parties have since gone through settlement negotiations that have now ended in agreement.
– I believe that the decision we have received in this Supreme Court judgment is as important as the introduction of new provisions in the Copyright Act in 2018. The clarifications that have been made are of great importance for all types of rights holders. The Supreme Court has determined that distributors such as RiksTV make intellectual property available when they offer various TV channels to their subscribers, says Cato Strøm.
