What is your musical background?
I started to get really interested in music when I was in middle school. I did my first public performance at UKM and from there I was contacted by Momentium who wanted to offer me a place at Jugendfest. Jugendfest was really fun! I entered the Music Award 2018 and won it. The jury included Tord Krogtoft, general manager of Øyafestivalen. A few weeks after the music award I was offered a gig there in 2018, which I of course accepted! Part of the prize for the music award was to play at Trondheim Calling, which I am really looking forward to!!
When did you start making music?
I've always loved music, but I didn't start working seriously with it until I was 16.
What was the name of the first song you ever wrote, and what was it about?
The first song I wrote was called "Mel", haha, it was just on Soundcloud and was about me not doing any drugs, which I felt was important to address so as not to reinforce the prejudices people have about rappers and artists in general?
How does your music come about?
I get an idea, usually from something I read or hear myself. Then I like to go to my producer, Dyrisk, and discuss the sound, while he works on the beat. I either write a lot on the spot, or I take the beat home and work on it there. When I have a demo, I take it to the studio, Ocean Sound Recordings, where I work with Dyrisk and Henning Svoren.
Tell us about your latest release?
I released Blomst in October, a little over-the-counter antidepressant for the heavy winter months. A song that I really like, it's about being a little unsure and afraid to take the first step. A song that I think takes you on a journey and paints a nice visual picture for the listener.
What are you working on now? What does 2019 bring for Isak Shorty?
Thanks for asking! I'm currently working on new stuff, a project I love working on and that I feel makes a small difference in the Norwegian hip-hop soundscape. So far 2019 is looking great, I hope I get to play a lot of concerts and that I have a good festival summer.
What does it mean to play at Trondheim Calling in 2019?
I am very grateful for the opportunity and I am really looking forward to it! It means a lot to me to be seen as a serious artist and to be allowed to play at a music conference where I know there is a shortage of places. I was happy when I saw that Linni was also going to play there, I am looking forward to meeting him again, he is a very nice guy. I am also very happy that I have my best friend with me as a hypeman/dj. We also played together at Jugendfest 2018.
The story continues below the picture.

What is your career highlight so far?
It must have been winning the Music Award, that was absolutely insane.
Do you have an instrument or other equipment that is indispensable in the writing process?
I can actually write without any aids, but I like to have a piano to go with it, it really depends on the style of the song. The best thing is to do it the way I usually do, idea, beat and lyrics.
What do you do when you're not making music?
I go to school, 3rd grade media and communication in Ålesund. So a lot of my time is spent on that, otherwise I spend a lot of time with friends. I like listening to music, these days I listen to a lot of podcasts.
What is the greatest musical experience of your life?
Watching Cezinando close out Øyafestivalen 2018
Is there anything we should have asked you about?
Who I dream of collaborating with.
And what is the answer to that question?
Lars Vaular
