MUSIC FORUM, Tuesday 31 May: Reflections on the dynamics of time. Literature House (Kverneland), 19:00 PM.
/ 18/05/2011 / codexComposers arrange their material over time, place their passages in time and play on the listener's experience of time. What is the relationship between the natural sciences' definition of time and the human experience of it? Is there time without consciousness? Philosopher Truls Wyller has discussed such questions in several books, and in his lecture he will look more closely at the relationship between "dynamic" and "static" perceptions of time: Based on thinkers such as Augustine, Bergson, Husserl and McTaggart, he argues that in a world without people there is no room for any real, dynamic change. In such a world, he claims, there is also no difference between imagined and real time.
Truls Wyller was born in 1951. He studied at the University of Oslo and is now a professor of philosophy at NTNU. He has had several research stays at German universities. In addition to scientific articles, he has written books about time and space, Kant's philosophy, ethics and just war. His latest publication is What is Time, Universitetsforlaget 2011.
