Composer and lyricist Mira Thiruchelvam was awarded the EDVARD Prize 2020 in the challenger category two weeks ago, for the band 9 degrees north's album Jaffna.
The jury's reasoning states, among other things: Thiruchelvam's compositions are fearless and liberating, the music a fusion of different genres, with clear ties to the south.-Indian musical tradition and Thiruchelvam's family roots in Sri Lanka.
