What could be better than taking out an LP, putting it on the turntable and putting the stylus in the groove? The journey from finished music to the physical records on store shelves is a long one.
In a new episode of Musikkskaperne, Jeanette Stigen and Maria Nergård from Musikkoporætørene are guests. They run a Norwegian distribution company that ensures that music from Norwegian artists and record labels finds its way to both physical stores and digital platforms – in Norway and internationally.
They were recently awarded NOPA's communication award, a recognition that emphasizes how important their work is for Norwegian music creators.
The music operators received NOPA's dissemination award as a tribute to their efforts to preserve and disseminate Norwegian music, despite the challenges it entails in an increasingly digitalized world.
"The Music Operators act as a bridge between creators and listeners, ensuring that Norwegian music reaches far beyond Norway's borders," they stated in their acceptance speech. For the Music Operators, distribution is about more than just sales – it is about maintaining the connection between Norwegian music and the audience. The award is a recognition of the valuable work they do to spread the creative and rich diversity that Norwegian music represents. (Excerpt from the jury's reasoning)
In the podcast episode, Stigen and Nergård share insights from their work with physical and digital distribution in particular. Listeners will hear what is important to consider if you are planning to release music on record yourself.
