There are 32 national organizations behind the petition for singing in schools. The new general curriculum for primary school no longer mentions the word singing, as it used to. The petition, led by the organization Krafttak for sang, believes that singing has an important place in primary school and society in general.
Singing is one of our most important cultural expressions, and has been a central part of Norwegian school life for centuries. It is now well documented that singing can be used as an effective tool for learning and motivation in a number of subjects.
Singing can contribute to a positive learning environment, to building community and has a positive effect on cognitive processes such as concentration, memory, motivation and language learning. Singing can also be used to prevent bullying, strengthen empathy and mental health and contribute to the natural integration of children with a different cultural and linguistic background. Through singing, traditions are created that become common property for all children and adults at school – regardless of social background and age. There is also value in students and teachers gaining a healthy and conscious relationship with their own singing and speaking voice.

The organizations now encourage everyone to participate in the "Sing Out" celebration outside the Storting on Wednesday, June 12 at 4:00 PM.
There is less singing in schools than before and we are very concerned about that. It makes us poorer both as people and as a nation. On Wednesday, June 12th at 4:00 PM, we will have a song celebration in front of the Storting where we will clearly tell politicians that we need more singing in schools. At the celebration, we will sing famous songs such as Per Spelmann, Grevling i taket, Forelska i lærer'n and Dyrene i Afrika. Maj Britt Andersen and other famous artists will be the lead singers.
