A worldwide network

TONO has reciprocal agreements with 87 sister societies in 2026, covering a total of 181 countries and territories worldwide. The agreements mean that these companies license TONO members' music in their countries, and that TONO does the same for them in Norway.

Rights companies around the world work in an international network. When a sister society in another country has income from the use of TONO's repertoire, the money is sent to TONO for further payment to the members. Similarly, TONO represents the music of all these companies in Norway, licenses the use, and pays money to these companies when the music is used.

In the overview below, some agreements are marked “unilateral”, which means that the agreement is unilateral. This means that TONO manages the company’s rights in Norway, but not vice versa, because another company in the country in question already manages TONO’s repertoire there. Some agreements are marked “Client RME”. These are private management companies that cooperate with collective management organisations and use CISAC their technical systems, without themselves being a collective like TONO.
