The EDVARD Prize
TONO has awarded the EDVARD Prize annually (with the exception of 2009) since 1998. The prize is awarded to TONO rights holders in several categories, which have varied over the years. In 2022, prizes were awarded in the categories Contemporary Music, Popular Music, Lyrics to Music, Open Class and Challenger. A winner is chosen in each category annually, who is awarded a unique trophy designed by Magne Furuholmen (Edvard Grieg in profile), a diploma and a scholarship of NOK 70,000.
It is a requirement that the prize winner's music or text must have been premiered the previous year. Emphasis is also placed on the author's other production. The aim is that a composer should be able to receive the EDVARD Prize only once.
TONO's Mediator Award
TONO also awards the TONO Mediator Award, which can be awarded to non-TONO members – for example festivals, record labels, etc., who have distinguished themselves through the dissemination of TONO's repertoire. The award was established in 2011. One winner of the TONO Mediator Award is chosen per year, and the winner is awarded a diploma designed by Magne Furuholmen.
Anne Grete Preus Prize
The Anne Grete Preus Prize was established at Anne Grete Preus's own request. It was established in 2024.
The award is presented annually to a female songwriter and artist who creates her own music and lyrics within the popular music landscape in the broadest sense. The recipient must be established and have some releases under her belt, but still be willing to develop further.
The winner must have clear artistic ambitions to move popular music away from the purely commercial, and strengthen the personal and artistic popular music. The aim of the award is to inspire music artists to continuously work on developing themselves further.
The prize consists of 100,000 kroner.
