The Alta band Biru Baby has gained attention for its uncompromising music and Sami symbolism. Auto-tune joik, Sami kofte and fishnet stockings are frequently used elements. In addition, blue The ugliest word in the Sami language.
– We thought we might be ostracized, but the opposite happened. The Sami Parliament has also supported us, says vocalist Hanna Krogh-Reinsnes.

In the early 2000s, Krogh-Reinsnes and Iki played together in Cyaneed. It was the success of this band that laid the foundation for Biru Baby.
– We traveled a lot and got to see what the world was like outside of Finnmark. Only then did we realize how exotic and cool it is where we come from. Our vision is to really showcase this.
Sami culture and symbolism have played a central role in the project from the beginning. But Krogh-Reinsnes and Iki have not always had such a close relationship with their Sami identity.
– We have felt that we have been very Norwegianized. We have not been able to speak Sami, have not had a cardigan and have never really known that we are Sami. We took on the Sami because we felt that it was something that belonged to us. Only later did I start doing genealogy research and find out that I am almost 100 percent Sami, she says.
