New agreement with the Norwegian Music Council, the Norwegian Band Association and the Norwegian Choir Association

TONO has entered into a new agreement with the Norwegian Music Council (NMR), the Norwegian Music Band Association (NMF) and the Norwegian Choir Association (NK) that regulates the performance of concerts. The agreement, which applies from 1 January 2009, is a solidarity framework agreement that applies to 23 of NMR's member organizations as well as NMF and NK.

The main elements of the new agreement are the continuation of a central agreement model where all the organizations pay a fixed fee on behalf of their member groups/choirs/bands. The fee applies to the concerts that each individual member group/choir/band arranges itself and it is assumed that each member arranges an average of 2 concerts per year. However, the fixed fee only covers concerts with gross ticket revenues of up to kr 50.000 per concert, possibly a maximum of 500 visitors if no ticket revenue is required.

For concerts with ticket revenues exceeding kr 50.000, 3% of gross ticket revenue (from the first krone) must be paid. If there are no ticket sales, but over 500 visitors, a fee must be paid. kr 2 per visitor. For all concerts that are not covered by the fixed fee agreement, each individual member group/choir/band is now obliged to inform/report to TONO in each individual case. The fee will then be invoiced for the individual concert.

The individual member group/choir/band must still send programs to TONO for all concerts they arrange. In reporting, the concert report form must be used, which can be downloaded from . TONO is working to facilitate electronic concert reporting on its website as soon as possible. In addition, they must now report all concerts that had ticket revenues in excess of kr 50.000 or no ticket revenue, but over 500 visitors to TONO as soon as possible after the concert has been held. This is done by e-mail: or customer service phone 2205 3848 and applies to all concerts arranged from 1 January 2009. TONO's marketing director Geir Gaarder is satisfied with the new agreement. - During the negotiations, we have focused on larger concerts and we would prefer that all concerts were included in the fixed fee. But we ended up with a shared model where extra payments are made for concerts with ticket revenue over kr 50.000. Of course, we could have liked a lower limit, but overall this is a good solution and a step in the right direction, says Gaarder. – We must also not forget that we are continuing a central agreement model with a fixed fee at the bottom where we get paid for several thousand concerts per year. These are concerts that we would otherwise have had to use large administrative resources to get an overview of. The agreement provides an increase in the fixed fee of about 17%. In addition to this, there is also fee income for concerts with ticket revenues of over kr 50.000 or 500 visitors.
