Norwegian cultural schools have received a new TONO agreement. Student concerts are covered until 2023.
/ 13/01/2021 / Kristian DugstadTONO and the Norwegian Council of Cultural Schools, which represents cultural schools in 350 of 356 Norwegian municipalities, have negotiated a new agreement.
The agreement regulates the use of music in cultural schools' student concerts and other student events with music until 2023. Nationally, there are approximately 100,000 students in the cultural school system.
– The agreement with the Norwegian Council of Cultural Schools is positive for both the cultural schools and TONO. By entering into a joint agreement for 350 municipalities and their cultural school offerings, the handling of music rights becomes easier for all parties. It is good for both TONO members and the cultural schools and their students, says Geir Gaarder, Director of Negotiations at TONO.
– We are very pleased with both the agreement and the collaboration with TONO. This is positive for the cultural schools and their students, says Morten Christiansen, director of the Norwegian Cultural Schools Council.
All 350 municipalities that are members of the Norwegian Council for Cultural Schools are covered by the agreement. In other words, they are free to use TONO's repertoire, in practice the entire world repertoire, in their student concerts and other student events that use music.
The agreement applies only to physical events, and does not cover sound recording, audiovisual recordings and uploading or live streaming of content online. Musical dramatic works, (great rights), including concert versions or other excerpts of musicals, are exempt from the agreement.
The cultural schools must continuously report all concerts to TONO, with information on the musical works performed. This is done electronically at www.tono.no.
