TONO has licensed the new Norwegian and digital music video service vidFlow, which was launched yesterday, August 12. The service allows users to stream music videos, and refers to itself as "MTV's digital successor."
vidFlow describes itself as the music video equivalent of Spotify and says it wants to revive the golden age of music videos. They offer a huge number of high-quality music videos and will deliver music videos, concerts and other video content sorted, recommended and tailored to the user. The service also generates revenue back to the artists and record labels, and not least to the creators through the agreement entered into with TONO. The content in the service comes from the record labels, and is not a service that allows users to upload video content themselves, unlike, for example, YouTube.

Behind vidFlow are founders Nassir Achour and Shire Marius Standnes, both from Oslo. Other people involved include manager and lawyer Morten Andreassen, who is the chairman of the board, and music video director Reinert K. “Ray Kay”.

TONO wishes you good luck

As vidFlow makes musical works managed by TONO available to a Norwegian audience, an agreement with TONO is naturally inevitable. This means that the composers, songwriters, lyricists and music publishers – in other words, the rights holders of the musical works – will receive fair TONO remuneration for the use of their music there. TONO has had a positive and good dialogue with vidFlow throughout the entire process, and finds it positive that there will be a new service dedicated to the music video format:

– In vidFlow, users will easily get access to official music videos with their favorite artists, and there should be a market for that. TONO is pleased that vidFlow is now launched. With it, we have another new and good digital channel where music creators and the audience meet. We wish them luck, says Willy Martinsen, Head of Communications at TONO.
