Norcode founded: 15 million for development work in the cultural field

Over a 20-year period, these organizations have each spent close to 40 million kroner on the work of building a cultural infrastructure in a number of developing countries. Now they want to coordinate their activities through Norcode and step up their activity. Norwegian rights holders have received requests for support from authors, artists, musicians and others in a number of countries in Africa and Asia. Norcode will follow up on this.

The five organizations have committed to funding Norcode's activities with 15 million kroner in the years 2008–2010. Norcode aims to obtain additional funds from public authorities and private organizations. Through Norcode, Norwegian rights holders will share their expertise in the organizational and cultural fields with colleagues in other countries.

Effective associations for creative people and their publishers and producers ensure cultural diversity and freedom of expression, while improving the economic conditions of creators and performers who often live in poverty. Such grassroots organizations are therefore an important part of the cultural infrastructure that Norcode will strengthen. Other parts of this infrastructure are effective legislation and viable administrative organizations.
